Finished up last week with a 15 miler in Keene with my fellow owls, to give me 95 miles for the week. Very cool. We ran what was once called the Abenaki Run. Great conversations with all in the group and it was exciting to hear how well they are all racing. Tradition.
This week brought highs and lows for feeling good while running but def had solid efforts.
Tuesday - 4 x Hartley Hill (little over a mile up) with Najem. Last week I felt awesome, but this week I was a little sluggish. I attribute it to the fact that last week I was on vacation and this week I was back at school. The good things was the further into the repeats the better I was feeling. Once again we just ran regular effort up the hill for the first three then on the lat one picked it up slightly all the while feeling good. A solid 14 in the bag!
Wednesday - the weather was unreal and I was fresh out of a staff meeting, so I was in desperate need of some nature. I decided to nail the 14 mile Grafton power lines loop (which includes the infamous Satan's Grin hill). My goal was to go slow and just cover the distance, and that is exactly what I did. I wore my Highgear watch and my pace was slow early, but by the end I was in the low 7's/high 6 minute pace and that felt comfortable.
To run that pace on the hills and power lines, one would have to sell their soul to one of two people: the devil or me. I dobt need Strava to tell me who owns the FKT or who the King of the Mountains are; its cussing ME!
Thursday - today was a total nature run, tons of animals were out and about. I parked up on Ledge Rd and hustled the Lost Trail. About 10 minutes in my girl Lena goes ape cuss wild. She caught up to me with a face quilled up with 6-7 long quills. They came out real easy. Twenty minutes later, she is at it again, but this time the porcupine was cussin with her and not going up a tree. It was a decent size quiller and left about 5 tiny quills in her mouth... The fastest way back to the truck was to keep going. She seems fine, so I wasn't too worried. Twenty minutes after that we come up on a beaver pond and what looks like a beaver swimming in it. It wasn't, it was a good sized raccoon. Mama usually just chases them off the porch with a broom, but since this one was swimming, ain't no time for brooms.
Ellie and Lena were in that water like there was a fire. I didn't want my girls to kill this raccoon and I didn't want that raccoon to drown my girls, but it was straight out of a movie. The raccoon was scratching, biting and clawing and my girls were biting back. While my girls where paddling after it, the would push the raccoons head under water and it would swim (ver well too) and come up and start thrashing again.
During the malay, I yelling like a fool and I'd get one to listen before it turned into a wrestling tag team match. I finally get both by me and the raccoon swam under a rock and poked just it's nose out of the water to breath. Raccoons are def one smart animal.
Lena took a bite in the lip and a scratch across the face, Ellie was untouched (she's gnarly) and the raccoon had a good gash under one eye.
Great 10 miles with high excitement. I def don't lead a boring life...
Friday - after yesterday's Wild America run, I decided to chilled behind my place today on a mellow 9 miler on the white dot trail finishing down the switchbacks. The trails have some wet sections but overall they are in great condition.
Saturday - today is the day before the Muddy Moose 14 mile race so I wanted to keep it lighter than usual. I'm feeling the week and yesterday was a day I should have raced. Yesterday I felt amazing, and today I did everything to finish 7 miles atop Putney Mtn, great sign for tomorrow. Cuss.
I don't like the idea of losing let alone the idea of getting my cuss handed to me either, but I am remembering that it is for the greater cause. Tomorrow means nothing except for tomorrow and will be a solid race effort, quality race field and quality miles. I'm exiting to race and start racing more to get my sword sharp on both ends (mentally and physically). I recognize I'm not where I want to be but I'm thankful for where I am in my training and thankful I can be running. I can see where I want to be which is the first time in a long time.
Here comes some races, they may be ugly, but they will be fun...

L'homme Sauvage Wilder Mann Macidula
The primal heart still beats...
This was a tough week (health wise) and a good week of training. Greg and I talked about it the other day, running everyday an training are different. I feel in the verge of being able to train and not trying to sound like a cuss, but it's now or never bc I don't know how much time I have before I get sick.
I'm getting minor head fuzziness and some residual feelings in the health department. Boj said it best, "got to do what you can with the time you got," and if I'm going to get sick or sidelined again, , I'm going to go down in a blaze of fit glory... Haha.
Monday - Najem hustle out and had an awesome idea to do hill repeats on Hartley Hill (tough grueling 2 mile hill). We ran solid efforts on the mountainous part of about a mile section. The climbs are tough and it was great to complete a set of 3 climbs. Even running up the hill, it is wicked tough, so our efforts were great and relaxed.
Tuesday - since I'm on vacation this week I banged out an easy 9 miler in the morning around the abandoned apple orchard off Leach Rd. Felt very good the day after the hill repeats. In the afternoon I Voltroned with Greg in Pisgah for another 12 miles (or more) of fun. This was great bc I felt better on the second run...
Wednesday - I thought about going to Wednesday workout, but I tested my fitness level last week and don't need to do it every week (haha). But... it caught up with me and I feel like dog cuss. I also got told by the specialist Dr that I will need to go back on some meds for 90 days at 4 times a day... CUSS ME! There are worse things... I didn't have a lot in the tank and called the run after only 10 miles, my body was thankful.
Thursday - lethargy continues, and this sucks. I feel heavy, tired and weak. So, I decided to run a gnarly 14 miler out to the Athens Lookout. This run is tough with a lot of climbing and I felt this was the best way to stop feeling like a pansy. It worked to so e extent, I felt gnarly for completing, but def death marched portions. On the scales, I am 12 lbs heavier than this time last year. It is hard to gauge what fitness I'm in without any races, so I am going to find something and try to roll.
Friday - found a race in Brattleboro, 10k, and it will not be easy. Fyffe knows all the roads the course goes on and said it is wicked hilly and we did a course map on map my run and it is rolling up or half then and then rolling down for the second half.
In preparation for this race, I doubled today. The original plan was to double 10 and 5, but only shagged 5 in the morning and then teamed with Fyffe in Putney and rolled 5 with him. Very exciting that Fyffe is gearing back up.
Saturday - combining the last 7 days I have 104 miles, my highest since my summer of devastation. Knowing this 10k was going to be brutally tough and that I was going to kill myself on it was an enjoyable thought.
I ran a 33:03 for a very tough (arguably the hardest 10k I've ever done on the roads) and the most scenic. It was an amazing course that was very comparable to a trail/mountain race only on dirt roads.
There were points where I felt I resumed to training pace on some of the climbs and could only make up so much on the downhills. I was right around where I thought I'd be, which was nice. In 2 weeks and a year ago I raced at Groton 10k and ran a 33:15, and Groton was much easier with competition. Today I was by myself from the word "go" and much tougher, so this is a huge confidence booster.
I don't know how my clothes will fit if my confidence grows to be so fat!
Sunday should be a longer run with some lifers...

Deathly Hallows
Oh man... The last three weeks have been eventful, some for good and others for not, but def eventful. A solid three ago I was starting to settle into a good rhythm of running, but then my quad exploded on the marathon road with Najem. This was tough bc I lost somedays and the start up week that followed was bruised with feeling like a lard cuss of cuss cuss. It was a total cluster cuss.
So my last weeks were looking like: 81, 85, 82, 87, hog cuss, cuss discharge, and then last week ended up back at 80.
Last week was an awesome week of rolling. I had some epic fun runs. 80 miles with two days off is great.
I was feeling some fitness flowing in me so I wanted to test my fitness, so I hit the Keene to see where it was at.
The workout was 10 x Drummer Hill which runs like a 400m in time and is a great hill for repeats. The workout was light work as I was feeling fine. My health is the only hole, some days I feel great and other days I feel like cuss. But today's workout was a nice feeling. The times weren't anything outstanding, but the effort at which I was climbing was minimal and felt good and relaxed.
I then ended the week in Pisgah with a 3:18 hour run. Once again, I felt great the whole time and it was a solid bro day with Greg and the we Voltroned with Fyffe in Putney for a BBQ. Awesome week.
I got to get my cuss together if I want to compete in races and just finish them. The Burlington marathon might be a pain fest, but who better to take on pain then the King of Pain himself, ME!!!

BBoyz Makin the Freak Freak
The blog is a bit dusty but it's all good out here in the WILD... Been getting some quality treks in and been having super amounts of fun rolling, even though I'm rolling slow. If I can get my speed to catch up to Lloyd Christmas's rapist whit, I'll be as solid as last year.
The past three weeks have been great training weeks with the reintroduction of a steady long run. DHJones left me a but uneasy and I felt that the next month should be focused on solid training and focus of things to come. Bigger picture type cuss. So the last three weeks went as follows: 65, 81, and 81 for miles. I opened my big mouth and now it's time to defend my honor and show people what's real.
This past week has been a great week of training. 3/11-3/17
Monday - Thomas "what's in my Paquette" or "PaqMan" Paquette hustles out with Boj for a 10 miler before wings. It was great to see them and roll out. It is awesome the legacy of KSC runners and how we still run with each other and the decades our friendships cover. At wings that night there was Larry Legend Sayers from the 80's KSC squad, me and then Thomas. Very cool, very proud.
Tuesday - the weather was the runt of Romulus and totally sucked hind teat! I needed motivation and the universe sent me a message saying Greg needed it too, so I beamed a message to Greg to meet in Putney for a run and get us out the door in the nasty rain. We Voltroned at the covert culvert in Putney and hustled out an hour in the nastiness. It was a Neverland run, one run would be warm rain and the next road it would be Antarctic freezing. The plan was to loop one more road, but at an hour, the last road we were on, was colder than a polar bear colony, so we bailed for dry warm clothes and a pit stop at another hetero-lifemates house, Fyffe. the weather was like my last girlfriends attitude, ugly and lame, so it was great to cuss slap a run in it!
Wednesday - the weather was awesome, and mountain therapy was in the air. I zipped out to Magic Mtn for that therapy. The snow was a bit soft on top but overall the day was amazing. Rugged rugged rugged slopes. Very steep and unforgiving. Sportiva GTX's save the day and kept my feet dry and warm, wet cold feet are the worst.
Thursday - I hadn't run out in Grafton on the power lines in some time, so I made that my destination. With the temps dropping significantly, the trails were hard packed. The run was absolutely awesome. I felt I was in a dream state the whole time. The lighting was cussing with my eyes and my depth perception was cussed; it was bright but dark, then dark but bright... Timothy Leary would have loved it. It was tough to see any ice, and on a huge descend I slipped and was at the mercy of gravity and wicked percent grade. Slid for a while! Once I realized I was fine, I went back into bliss of being in nature and outside.
Friday - teamed up with another KSC owl and colleague, Tim Eno. We ran out on the Ledge Rd trails and took down a 5 mile loop. My first run with Tim this year and it was good to chat.
Saturday - Lifer Najem came out for the Marathon road 19 miler. Najem is just getting his swagger back and today was a huge step in awesomeness and long quality runs to come. Very cool. We just chilled and clocked 2:01 for the 19 road loop. It went by very fast with a lot of laughing (mostly me) and found out some things I didn't know. For instance; did you know that you can be suspended from high school for a single day? Yup. Want to know how? Just spit on a bitch... It's that easy. Who knew?! Also, Najem knows more about Judge Judy than a person should. Haha. Lastly, WAY TO GO PAQMAN! I heard she was piping HOT!!!
Sunday - took it easy on this glorious day and ran the Sap Lines 12 miler. Felt awesome! There was a ton of ice, but no slips or falls. I daydreamed for all of it about if I won 222 million... That would be epic, and had a ton of fun dreaming about all things I'd do, people I'd support, and places I'd go. Made for a beautiful run in the woods, bc most of my money spent would be on the places I was running through to keep them running trails and preserving nature.

Elliot Ness
This week was awesome. I was on school break this week and I was loving some of my ideas I had.
Monday - following yesterday's run of 22 I banged out two solid efforts. I disapperated Magic Mtn for some sold efforts. The snow was packed, the sky was bright blue and the air was cold: conditions were a huge success.
This time around I dropped into the Magic Mtn ski trails and cuss me, they are wildly steep. The morning session was amazing and the climbs were unforgiving, which was awesome.
In the afternoon, Boj and Goupil came out for wings and we ran before hand the usual. I was able to nail down over 3 hours of effort today, after a 22 mile day, cuss yea!
Tuesday - Greg did not have vacation this week so I Voltroned at his place for a run. The conditions were still great where all we needed were our trail shoes. I laced and zipped the La Sportiva GTX which keeps my feet dry as can be. I can't stand having wet feet. We did light work and had an awesome run.
Thursday - today I woke up crazy early (for me) and headed to Camel's Hump Mtn in Huntington VT. I have been yapping with Nick Yardley of JulboUSA and he was telling me the conditions were ideal. Sounded awesome, so I was in.
As I got within 30 miles of the mountain I could see a snowstorm rolling in around the mountain. The roads got very bad on the highway, but once off and only 7 miles away, the weather started to clear up. (once again, so I thought). I got out and right on the trail. I took the Burrows Trail, which is shorter but with the weather, it totally turned out to be the right decision.
Up I climbed and it was amazing. I broke through tree line and instantly the weather changed. The trees gave way more shelter than I could have imagined, so I made my summit trip quick. The wind was wild, the snow was wicked and it was epic.
Friday - shagged out an easy 5 at Ledge Rd in the morning before my afternoon run with Greg and Najem in Pisgah. We discussed outer space on this run and all the coolness that is out there we don't know about. Black holes, once you go black you'll never come back...
Sunday - SMH, I was very content with the way my week was going, but felt some guilt not racing the DHJones 10 miler. My week was epic so any "fast" or "good" times were out the window half way up Camel's Hump, but I said I was going to do, and really, I didn't have anything else to do.
I met Greg and Goupil in Brattleboro just in time to catch the ride down. As soon as I got in the care I regretted the decision, but the closer we got, the less I cared and focused on having a solid day of hard work. Don't get me wrong, I raced as hard as I could.
The course was told to me to be "very hilly" and/or "the hills are wicked tough," this was good to hear, bc it made me really focus on running smart. I'd rather feel coherent at 8 then ruin my race at 3 miles. The good news was I pictured it way harder (it was tough) so picturing the worst made the hills a non-factor mentally. Physically they were challenging, but over quickly (as quick as I could).
Overall I had a good/great day. My place was way back of the leaders, but I was happy with my effort based on my fitness. I statues within myself and had a day that was steps in the right direction.
I then came home and ran 90 minutes. One cuss of a way to end the week!

Owlhoots
It's all the same, only the names will change: and this week of training led to some events that should have humbled yours truly, but did nothing of the sort... I'm an outlaw!
Tuesday - Everyday it seems we're wasting away, so instead of wasting, I gunslinged my norm: White Dot down the switchbacks. The trails were hard packed and it was a great run, especially to finish with blue skies showing
Another place where the faces are so cold, an I'm planning on hitting up the Northern VT Snow Shoe Challenge and I'd drive all night just to get back home from dominating, if I am so fortunate.
Wednesday - But seriously, I'm a cowboy, on my own horsepower I ride, I'm wanted dead or alive... Marcus and I hustled out to Magic Mtn for another night run. The conditions were slick and icy, but I'm a bad ass, so I wasn't too worried about it.
We got to the top with daylight showing and explored a few side trails. I was planning on a long late night and Sometimes I sleep, sometimes it's not for days, but we managed to head down just as it was getting black.
Took a gnarly cussing spill on some unseen ice and jacked my elbow badly, Hurt like a cuss (for a second, then I remembered I'm an outlaw).
Thursday - i was thinking about the people I have met, And the people I meet always go their separate ways, the lifers stick around forever. Today was a day that I focused on my lifers and fellow outlaws, and thought it would be bad ass to attack the switchbacks to start the run. Awesome idea and a gnarly fun and fast run... Sometimes you tell the day, what the situation is going to be, today I was an outlaw rolling though the hills of VT...
Friday - Voltroned with Greg in Pisgah, and was fortunate that at times when you're alone all you do is think, I had a bro to discuss it all with. Great run that beat the snowstorm by a few hours, hell yea!!!
Saturday - Holy snow! Awesome for rolling on the snow shoes. I was really loving the trails the way they were but I'll take the snow.
Hauled it down to Pisgah again with Greg to conspire about our upcoming races. The snow was deep and made for tough conditions...
Sunday - I walk these streets, a loaded ego on my back I play for keeps, 'cause I might but I'm always making it back! I headed up to Smugglers Notch for the Northern VT snow shoe challenge. It is a 5 miler on XC trails and with all the fresh droppings, should be eventful. It is also the VT State Championships, and I have to bag the title.
I noticed a dude, David LaPorho, was trotting around and remembered him from VTCity Marathon. He ran well, for a Canadian it was impressive, and beat me by a few. I heard he was a bad ass on the snow shoes and was excited and ready to take a shot and take him down.
Then I hear some important info for my race plan: The dude is a world champion snow show racer, mother cusser won worlds! This made me think a bit about my race plan, but not too much thought... I been everywhere, and I'm standing tall, so I wasn't too worried.
Most of Canada showed up for the race, all 29 or so countrymen, and it was an international. I was banking on the facts of, I've seen a million faces an I've rocked them all, and figured that would do.
Holy cuss, I was epically, surprised. I led the start of the race and at about half a mile, LaPorho took the lead, by 1000m he put a minute on me and kept going. Dude must be on some kinds of jungle juice, bc I'm no bum... He went wild, and ended up beating me by 6 cussing cuss cuss suck my cuss minutes! He was Inspector Gadget and popped the snow shoes into jet powered rocket skis and blasted.
I was asked if it was humbling, cuss no, it was ridiculous. All in all, I was still VT sate Snow Shoe champ as getting beat by a world champ seems about right. I feel that's the only comp I have... Bc, I'm an outlaw, and a cowboy, on a steel Dion's and La Sportiva's I ride and I'm wanted dead or alive. I'm a cowboy, I got the night on my side, always I'm wanted dead or alive, And I ride, I still drive and always always wanted dead or alive...

False Idols
Here's the last two (lack luster at times) weeks. Dating from February 11 through the 24th.
The first of the two weeks was a rough one as far as getting out the door, but still managed 50+ mile week (22 came one one day). I had two sore knees (one from a fall and the other from trying to crush the skull of a dog), so I was happy with the days I got in.
Tuesday - Greg came out and we ran the usual. It's always great to run with your bros, and doesn't take motivation. Finishing runs in the daylight is awesome.
Thursday - went out to Ledge Rd and ran a very nice loop. It is just over 5 miles and has a lot of different adaptations to make it longer of need be. After a long day, this 5 felt long enough, but was good to get out there. The weather was awesome.
Friday - hustled down to Greg's to hit Pisgah. We parked at our usual spot and were about to roll out when the funny pair of people at the end of the road dogs starting acting crazy. My lil' girl Lena (who might be the sweetest soul on earth) ran up to greet and play with these two dogs.
Now, I always remarked to Greg how much I liked the looks of the dogs thought them to be cool; but when they raced down the driveway and started an attack on my precise: CUSS GOT REAL! I hate those dogs like Kenny Powers hates birdbaths and I wanted to destroy their souls.
One cuss sucker really looked like it took a bite of Lena and that was when I went out of my mind. I love animals and won't hurt one unless it is a second to last resort, where killing a last resort, but I wanted to kill. So... I liked that cuss bag of cuss as hard as I could with a right (my great kicking leg) then landed a left, the drive my knee through its skull falling on top of it and tried to choke it. Sounds gnarly, but what really probably happened was (all that happened) I hurt my right foot, REALLY hurt my knee on the dogs teeth and the cuss bag was too strong to hold onto to choke. But my intent was there.
Lena seemed fined, couple places looked swollen and a few small punctures, but nothing serious (or so I thought). We ended up running 11 miles in Pisgah and it seemed to end up being a good day.
Once back at Greg's, we found that lens was starting to bleed from a puncture on her shoulder. (a few days later I will have shaved the area and find a huge deep hole: cuss that dog).
Sunday - Greg and George came out to run the full 22 mile version of the station road. The conditions looked awesome from inside. The wind sounded ripe but we would be around high hills.
Some of those high hills turned into wind tunnels, the first ten minutes was brutally windy. In the wind was miserable and out of the wind was beyond enjoyable. Without the wind the day was ideal/perfect. This was George's first time on the marathon road and he loved it. It really is a great run.
If any of you want (that read this smut) want to come for a run on the marathon road or any other run (and can hang!): do it up!!!
